Behind Every Runner

You won’t be winning the London Marathon but you will begin your running journey with the best possible start. As well as treat your symptoms we want to understand the potential causes underlying your running injury. We think that assessing your running is the best way to do this.

In addressing these core elements you can improve your ability to tolerate load, which can reduce injury, improve performance and most importantly keep you running. At Balance Performance Physiotherapy we have a wealth of experience in working with runners. Our specialist running therapists are passionate, knowledgeable and expert in all things running. Countless billions of words have been written about running, and while not all of them will apply to your own situation, there’s a lot to be learned if you take the time to read articles, books and forums covering the sport.

Running assessment and consultation to discuss your running motivations, goals, style; with follow up sessions to guide you towards your goals. Following the initial assessment, we will ask you to think about how you feel as you run. Your session will start with a chat about why you’re here, including how running is fitting into your life at the moment. We will then assess and analyse your running posture - come prepared to run. Head-to-toe running technique assessment – identify deficits, and fix them.

Following a training plan will help you to build the amount of running you do gradually, with one, two or, at maximum, three tough sessions like hill sprints or interval runs a week. Once you get into the swing of running, you will start to get itchy feet on the days you’re not scheduled to train. However, taking at least one complete day of rest each week is essential to allow your body to recover and adapt to the training load. Keep skipping your rest days and at best you’ll burn out and at worst you’ll get injured. “A warm-down provides a period of adjustment between exercise and rest. It’s probably the most neglected part of a training session but you omit it at your peril,” says Grantham.

Feel Confident & Empowered

We will then move on to a number of running drills and exercises designed with improving your movement pattern in mind. You will leave with 1 or 2 things to work on, which is followed up with a brief written assessment summarising the key points of the session and detailing your homework. More and more of us are turning to running through the difficult times that the covid pandemic has created and it is a vital component in protecting many people's mental health. Enquire with We Run, and within a few days you’ll hear from a local coach with the passion and expertise to help you achieve your running goals.
